Firecrawl vs Jina Reader Pricing (2026): URL to Markdown Cost per Page, Plus a No-Signup Option

Firecrawl and Jina Reader both turn a URL into LLM-ready markdown, but they bill differently. Firecrawl (checked Nov 3, 2026) sells monthly credit plans at 1 credit per scraped page: Free 1,000 credits, Hobby $19 for 5,000, Standard $99 for 100,000, Growth $399 for 500,000 and Scale $749 for 1,000,000. Jina Reader bills the output tokens of each page from a prepaid API key: $50 buys 1 billion tokens and $500 buys 11 billion, and r.jina.ai also works without a key at 20 requests a minute. switch402's /v1/scrape needs no signup at all: $0.008 per successful page ($0.003 on lite), paid per call. The honest answer: at steady volume both Firecrawl and Jina cost less per page than switch402. switch402 is the option for no account, key, plan or prepaid balance.

  • Firecrawl: 1 credit per page

A scrape costs 1 credit per page (PDFs 1 per PDF page); JSON format or the prompt injection check adds 4. Hobby, Standard and Growth credits don't roll over, and Scale rolls over one month. Paid plans add pay-as-you-go credits in $5 steps: 1,000 credits on Hobby, 2,000 on Standard, 2,500 on Growth, 5,000 on Scale.

  • Jina Reader: output tokens per page

r.jina.ai counts the tokens in each response, so a long page costs more than a short one: a page that returns 10,000 tokens uses $0.0005 of a $50 pack. Without a key it is free at 20 requests a minute, and a new key comes with 10 million free tokens for non-commercial use. The jina-ocr-v1 option costs 40 times more tokens.

  • switch402: one price, no signup

$0.008 per successful page on /v1/scrape and $0.003 on /v1/scrape/lite, whatever the page length, paid per call in USDC on Base over x402. No account, API key, plan or balance, and a month with no calls costs $0.

  • What each one adds

Firecrawl also crawls whole sites, maps, searches, extracts JSON and runs browser sessions. Jina Reader adds options such as CSS selectors, image captions, forwarded cookies, PDF reading and a search endpoint. switch402 returns a public page as markdown, plus screenshots, web search, site maps, page metadata and PDF to text, each priced per call.

Jina's cost depends on page length; the rows use 10,000 output tokens per page as an illustration, not a measured average. A page would have to return more than 160,000 tokens before a $50-pack Jina page costs more than switch402's $0.008 (60,000 tokens against lite's $0.003), and the smallest paid pack is $50. Firecrawl rows use monthly billing; annual billing saves 16.7% (20% on Scale). Plain answer: at these volumes Jina's prepaid tokens and Firecrawl's plans cost less per page than switch402, with one exception: 1,000 pages on a paid Firecrawl Hobby plan cost $19 against $8. Both have free options. switch402 costs more per page in exchange for no signup, no API key, no plan and no balance: an agent pays from its own wallet, only for pages that come back.

Example: 1,000 pages in a month cost $8 on switch402 ($3 on lite). On Firecrawl they fit the Free plan's 1,000 credits ($0) or use a fifth of Hobby ($19); on Jina Reader, at 10,000 output tokens a page, they use about $0.50 of a $50 token pack, or $0 without a key at up to 20 requests a minute.

FAQ

Is switch402 live?
Yes. POST https://api.switch402.com/v1/scrape with {"url": "..."} returns the page as markdown for $0.008 USDC on Base per call, paid over x402 and charged only on success. A lower-cost endpoint, /v1/scrape/lite, is $0.003 per call.
Is Jina Reader cheaper than Firecrawl?
Per page, usually, if you buy tokens: at $0.05 per million tokens on the $50 pack, a 10,000-token page costs $0.0005, while a fully used Firecrawl Standard plan works out at about $0.001 per page and Hobby at $0.0038. Long pages cost more on Jina (a 20,000-token page is $0.001), while Firecrawl charges 1 credit whatever the length. Jina's smallest paid pack is $50 up front; Firecrawl bills monthly.
How much does Firecrawl cost?
Per firecrawl.dev/pricing, checked Nov 3, 2026, monthly billing: Free $0 (1,000 credits), Hobby $19 (5,000), Standard $99 (100,000), Growth $399 (500,000) and Scale $749 (1,000,000); Enterprise is custom. A basic scrape is 1 credit per page, and paid plans buy extra credits in $5 steps.
How much does Jina Reader cost?
Per jina.ai/reader, checked Nov 3, 2026: usage is billed by output tokens from a prepaid key. A $50 pack gives 1 billion tokens ($0.05 per million) and a $500 pack 11 billion ($0.045 per million). A new key includes 10 million free tokens for non-commercial use, and r.jina.ai works without a key at 20 requests a minute.
Why pay more per page with switch402?
Only if you need what it removes: no signup, API key, plan or prepaid balance. An agent with USDC on Base pays $0.008 per successful page over x402 ($0.003 on lite), so a month with no calls costs $0 and failed pages cost nothing. If you are happy to hold a key and a balance, Firecrawl or Jina will usually cost less per page.
Which one returns the best markdown?
We have not benchmarked output quality, so we make no claim. All three return a public page as markdown; try your own URLs. Firecrawl and Jina have more options (crawling, selectors, JSON extraction, captions); switch402 keeps one call per page with a fixed price.
Where do these numbers come from?
Firecrawl's pricing page (plans, credits, pay as you go, rollover) and Jina's Reader page (token packs, rate limits, free tokens), both checked Nov 3, 2026, plus switch402's live payment terms. Prices can change; check the sources before you decide.
